Bill and Angeline – Northern Virginia wedding photographer in Bluemont Virginia

Sunday, May 1st, 2011

It was a beautiful day for a wedding in Bluemont Virginia. Yes, it rained, but the rain deepened the colors of the lush landscape and made the venue feel more intimate. Congratulations to an extraordinary couple on their wedding day!

Congratulations to Phil and Patti on their wedding! They were married in the LDS Temple in Draper, Utah, and had their reception in the Springville Museum of Art. What a great idea to have a wedding reception in an art museum!

Laura and John’s Outdoor Wedding Photography with Temperatures in the 20s

Monday, January 24th, 2011

Laura and John tied the knot a couple of days after her bridal photography session (see the previous bridal photography blog entry). It was a cold, cold day. The wedding itself was indoors, but the photography took place mostly outdoors. I’m not sure how long we were outdoors, but I’m guessing a couple of hours or so. The bride braved it in her short sleeve wedding dress, and, as the photographer, I had no choice but to go gloveless so I could use the controls on my camera. My fingers were painfully cold, but it was worth it. Their wedding and reception were beautiful, and they were remarkably easy to work with. It was a pleasure to be a part of their special day!

Laura – Bridal Photography Session

Monday, January 24th, 2011

I brought my studio lights to a location in Alexandria, Virginia for a recent bridal photography session for Laura. Laura’s mother came also, to help prepare her daughter for the photos. Both of them were wonderful to work with. Laura was excited to be the bride, and she was easy-going as well. It made for a smooth session.

Wedding Album: Tri and Wanida

Thursday, November 11th, 2010

One of the nicest ways to preserve a collection of photographs from your wedding is to showcase them in a custom-designed flush-mounted album. There are many styles of covers to choose from, and they all come with a binding style that allows the pages to open up completely flat, without straining the binding or bending the photos. The pages are real photographic prints on photographic paper, not printed on a press. They are mounted on a thick backing and coated to protect the print from wear and tear.

Engagement Photos in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia

Monday, October 25th, 2010

Shad and Tirza are some of the nicest people you will ever meet, and they are excited for their upcoming marriage. They are as in love as you could ever hope an engaged couple would be.

We spent the morning in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia taking engagement photos along the cobblestone streets, the waterfront, and in the public garden areas.

Owen and Lina, wedding photography in Alexandria Virginia

Friday, June 25th, 2010

I have known Lina for a couple of years now. We met while taking a swing dance class at Clarendon Ballroom in Arlington, Virginia. We’ve had some great conversations over the years. She exudes happiness and hope in a bright future, even when in the midst of difficult circumstances. Her optimism was rewarded when she met Owen. They got engaged last year (see the engagement photos) and were married in Alexandria, Virginia on Memorial Day. The couple couldn’t have looked happier, and I couldn’t have been happier for them. Congratulations Lina and Owen!

Note: I attended this wedding as a friend. Kelly Langner Sauer was the wedding photographer of contract. You can her photographs of the wedding in a slideshow she put together at http://www.kellylangnersauer.com/photography/2010/06/owen-lina/ My photos are only of the wedding ceremony itself. Kelley’s photos include the reception and couple portraits as well.

Washington DC Wedding Photographer: Tri and Wanida’s Thai, Chinese, and American Wedding

Friday, April 30th, 2010

Tri and Wanida were married on a beautiful day in April. One of the things that made their wedding so interesting and fun to photograph was the combination of Chinese, Thai, and American traditions that they incorporated into their wedding day. He has Chinese heritage; she has Thai heritage, and they both now share a good deal of American heritage. Their day started early in the morning with some events in the Chinese tradition. That part of the day was for close family and friends only, so I did not get to see it, but I did get to see their three-part ceremony in the afternoon and evening. This chameleon couple changed their look throughout the evening to make sure to cover as many elements from the three cultures as they could.

Part 1 was the Thai water ceremony, during which the couple dressed in traditional Thai outfits.

Part 2 was the American portion, and they changed into a traditional white wedding gown and tuxedo to greet guests as they entered.

For part 3, the bride changed into a red wedding gown, to conform with the Chinese custom.

Sa-weeet! This day takes the cake! (A photo essay about a day at a bakery)

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

It’s not every day that I get to walk away from a day of photography with boxes full of cake and cupcakes. That’s what happened a little while ago, though, when I spent the day taking pictures for a photo essay about the Occasionally Cake bakery in southern Alexandria, near Fort Belvoir. I hadn’t originally planned on spending the whole day there, but I must have been seduced by the smell of sweet breads baking in the oven, or perhaps by the generous welcome and conversation offered by my hosts at the bakery. Whatever the reason, it was a fun day photographing the women at Occasionally Cakes doing their thing, and they were obviously having a good time doing it.

Come take a look inside with me. You’ll even get to see the behind-the-scenes making of an elaborate cake from start to finish.
